Jeepney Projects Worldwide is honored to present an evening with Ana Valerie Mandri Rohen from the amazing El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve, located in the remote Sierra Nevada of Mexico’s Chiapas region. This event will provide an excellent introduction and overview of the El Triunfo reserve, the wildlife, and the people that share the land, as well as the current challenges that they face. Ana, Director of the Fondo de Conservación El Triunfo, will discuss how local, indigenous communities are working with El Triunfo on projects such as local coffee farms, the goals being to maintain a thriving, sustainable future, and to conserve this incredible forest.

Shrouded in an almost constant mantle of fog, El Triunfo is Mexico’s largest cloud forest, and is located in the mountains near the Guatemalan border. Home to the unique and endangered horned guan and the beautiful resplendent quetzal, this dense rainforest is also home to jaguar, puma, ocelots, spider monkeys, tapirs, and many other amazing creatures. Huge, ghost-like white morpho butterflies float through massive 40 foot tall tree ferns, epiphytes and bromeliads. It is truly a magical place that inspired the creation of Jeepney Projects back in 2010. (See Trip to El Triunfo Reserve, Jungle Boogie, our first blog post!)

Hosted by Jeepney Projects Worldwide co-founder Howard Flax at his Oakland store, FLAX art & design, a fun evening for all will be enlivened through a beautiful art installation, a variety of tropical plants, as well as an opportunity to purchase prints and other gift items, with all funds raised going to benefit El Triunfo. For the event, we are asking for a small donation of $20.00 to help cover the evening’s costs. Wine, beer and light hors d’oeuvres will be served. Please join us!

David Tomb visited El Triunfo in 2007 in search of the Resplendent Quetzal. It’s tail can be twice as long as its body, and seeing one in nature becomes a life-time memory. Well, David saw one, which lead to the painting below, a wonderful exhibition, and the founding of Jeepney Projects to try and help these and other fragile and beautiful animals and their ecosystem.

 

 

 

 

Both images above and below will be available as limited edition prints at the event. Two select birds, pride species from the reserve, are available in a limited edition run of 250. Approximately 24″x17″, each is hand-signed and numbered, and embossed with El Triunfo Reserve’s Seal.

These archival digital fine art prints benefit the El Triunfo Conservation Fund. The proceeds from each sale go directly to conserving the natural resources and promoting the social development of the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve.
